Odisha: Powering Progress with a Greener Vision

Odisha is one of India’s few states that proudly balances thermal, hydro and solar power generation, while holding immense untapped potential for renewable energy development. Blessed with rich coal reserves that provide reliable and affordable power, the State has nonetheless been a pioneer in promoting clean energy, introducing regulatory provisions for renewable power procurement as early as FY 2011–12.At the heart of this transition is GRIDCO Limited (formerly Grid Corporation of Odisha Limited) — the State’s nodal agency for bulk power procurement — entrusted with ensuring compliance of the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) for DISCOMs and other obligated entities. Today, Odisha proudly ranks sixth among Indian states in RPO compliance, performing well above the national average. With a clear vision for the future, GRIDCO aims to transform the State’s power mix — moving from the current 55:45 ratio of conventional to renewable energy to 45:55 over the next decade, through the systematic expansion of renewable capacity. Driven by innovation and commitment, Odisha is steadily progressing toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy future for all.
